BASS RIVER BRIDGE REPLACEMENT
The Bass River Bridge carries Route 28 over the Bass River between the towns of Yarmouth and Dennis. Today's span dates from 1935 and is the fourth in the series of Bass River Bridges. The bridge, though safe for all users, is reaching the end of its useful lifespan and must be replaced.
Project Status
The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT), which owns and maintains the bridge, has retained a project team led by HDR Engineering Inc. to develop a design for the replacement of the structure. It is anticipated that construction will begin in 2024. The project has a budget of $17 million at this time. MassDOT and its team are aware of the unique seasonal traffic challenges associated with construction on Cape Cod and is developing its plan to address impacts to the greatest extent practicable.
